I Protect Myself
Written by Chad W. Thomas on August 23, 2026
Suicidal thoughts exist because I want to escape from a threat. I feel afraid of people to the point of wanting to run away from them. There is nothing wrong with experiencing suicidal thoughts. Suicidal ideation is a sign of a need for safety. I don’t have to fear thoughts.
-
I think thoughts.
-
I exist separate from thoughts.
-
I am not thoughts.
-
What am I?
-
I observe thoughts.
-
I exist separate from thoughts.
-
I am not thoughts.
-
I am a spirit with a connection to this body.
-
Death is the separation of the spirit from the body.
-
Death does not counter evil.
-
“You can’t kill a spirit even if you tried to. I’m inside you.”
-
Do the best I can to be the person I wish I had to protect me.
-
I protect myself by locking my door and window.
-
I protect myself by eating peanut butter crackers and drinking water.
-
I protect myself by journaling about what happened to process how I experienced what happened and validate how I feel.
-
I protect myself by listening to Hip Hop music. I relate to Hip Hop music about poverty, crime, suicidal thoughts and an attempt, feeling lonely and unwanted, a desire to protect someone, and a desire to protect myself.
-
I protect myself by practicing yoga to release tension from my body and detach from my body.
-
I protect myself by acknowledging I do not need anyone to protect me.
-
I protect myself by reminding myself I am enough.
-
I am enough.
